Does Taylor Make Left Handed Guitars?
Yes! Not only that, nearly all Taylor guitars are available in lefty orientation! This means there’s an absolutely huge range left handed Taylor guitars available!
The Taylor website states:
“For left-handed players, all models are available in a left-handed configuration at no additional charge, except most Builder’s Edition models.”
There’s even more choice than that of C. F. Martin Guitars, who, amazingly, have more than 80 lefty acoustic models! Taylor has more than 110 left handed models! So much choice!

Who Are Taylor Guitars?
Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug in El Cajon, California. The company has become one of the largest manufacturers of acoustic guitars in the US and one of the most respected names in the guitar industry.
Over the years, Bob Taylor’s knowledge of guitar construction led to numerous innovations, through the use of modern technology and manufacturing processes, enabling the company to produce guitars to a consistently high quality.
By 1995, Bob Taylor became interested in the use of exotic tonewoods and began replacing traditional techniques with a modern take on guitar design. At this point, Taylor tried using Oak, taken from old shipping pallets from a factory, resulting in what he called the “Pallet Guitar“.
The Pallet Guitar’s neck was also made from the oak pallet, and the fretboard had a Formica-and-pearl inlay in the shape of a forklift.
In 2000, 25 limited edition Grand Auditorium-bodied Pallet Guitars were reproduced with aluminum inlay to accentuate the original nail holes in the pallet wood. The original Pallet Guitar is on display at Taylor Guitars’ factory in El Cajon, California.
In 1999, Taylor developed the bolt-on “NT (New Technology) neck“, which used a continuous piece of wood to the 19th fret in order to support the fingerboard, rather than the usual 14th fret.
In 2004, Taylor’s electronics system, the Expression System, or ES, broke new ground in amplifying acoustic guitar sound. Designed in-house, it was designed to amplify the natural warmth of the guitar’s acoustic tones.
The brand has been endorsed by many musicians across various genres and has produced signature models for stars such as Taylor Swift, Dave Matthews, and Jason Mraz, further elevating its popularity.
In 2011, luthier Andy Powers was hired to take Taylor’s guitar designs forward. He helped to advance Taylor’s product designs with groundbreaking innovations like Taylor’s V-Class bracing, as well as many award-winning guitar models. In 2019, Andy joined Bob and Kurt as a third owner of the company.
In January 2021, Taylor Guitars announced the transition of ownership to their employees, making Taylor one of the largest wholly employee-owned companies in America.
As the world has evolved, sustainability has become an important factor; Taylor Guitars play their part in sustainability efforts in the guitar industry by seeking out ethical sourcing of woods and materials, as well as reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
They have joined with several partners, launching projects in order to restore forests in places such as Cameroon and Hawaii, as well as closer to home in California, underscoring their commitment to this cause.
With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and quality, Taylor Guitars has become a leader in the crowded guitar landscape and shows no signs of slowing down.
Taylor’s main factory and headquarters remain in El Cajon, California. They also have a factory in Tecate, Mexico.
Famous players of Taylor guitars include John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment), KT Tunstall, Linda Perry, and Sarah McLachlan.
Famous lefty guitarist Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) has also been known to play Taylor acoustic guitars, although he is mostly known to play Gibson electric guitars, among others.
My Thoughts On Taylor Guitars
The very fact that so many left-handed Taylor guitars are available makes me like the company. They’re probably the most lefty-friendly guitar company out there.
The only problem I’d have is choosing which Taylor guitar to get! We’re spoilt for choice.
If only other guitar companies could take a leaf out of Taylor Guitars’ book and give lefties as much choice as their right handed customers.
Taylor has grown to become one of the biggest manufacturers of acoustic guitars and has built a strong reputation for building premium guitars of the highest quality.

Final Thoughts
Taylor Guitars has an absolutely massive range of left handed acoustic guitars! Pretty much all of the right handed range are available in lefty versions, and at no extra cost; it’s just the Builder’s Edition models that aren’t all available.
That’s an amazingly huge choice for lefty guitarists; more than 110 models in all. Not all are available to buy off the rack, however. You can order straight from Taylor though.
I think it’s brilliant that a guitar company is willing to supply left handed guitarists with almost as many guitars as their right handed counterparts. It’s not often that happens.
It’s no wonder Taylor is one of the leading acoustic guitar manufacturers in the world.
