What’s Different About Guitar Grip Guitar Hangers?

These hand-some devices really are unique guitar hangers; they’re in the shape of hands! Well, most of them are anyway.
These hand guitar hangers are available in several designs; Mummy hands, Zombie hands, Skeleton hands, male hands, female hands. You’ll have your hands full with these!
There are also some hangers that aren’t in the shape of hands as well.
Each guitar hanger is hand-made and hand-painted with loving care, and being hand-made, no two hangers are the same.
You gotta hand it to the folks at GuitarGrip, these quirky guitar hangers look fantastic!
Who is GuitarGrip?

GuitarGrip is a business, based in Michigan, run by the Ryan family, who produced their first hand-shaped guitar hanger back in 2006. It started as a small project, but then they decided to get their hands dirty; they learned all about manufacturing and expanded the business.
From there, it was all hands on deck, going from making sixteen Guitar Grips in their first month, to producing thousands each year. You gotta hand it to them, now they’re making hangers hand over fist!
Now they’re a dab hand at making these distinctive guitar hangers. All these years later, you could say they’re an old hand at doing this!
They know guitar hangers like the back of their hands!
Phew! These puns are starting to get out of hand…
Which Guitar Grip Hand Should I Get? Left or Right?
Does guitar orientation matter? Yes, it does. Or more importantly, it depends on the shape of your guitar’s headstock. Bear in mind if your guitar has a reversed headstock too.
So if you have a Gibson Les Paul style headstock, you could buy any of the different Guitar Grip hangers. If you have a left handed Fender Strat or a righty Strat with a reverse headstock, then you’d need to get a right hand Guitar Grip.
On the other hand, if you had a right handed Fender Strat or a lefty Strat with a reverse headstock, then you’d need to get a left hand Guitar Grip.
It’s a good job GuitarGrip’s infographic is on-hand to give you a helping hand in deciding which orientation Guitar Grip hand to get.

Pros and Cons of Buying a Guitar Grip Hanger
Pros
- Incredible detail – There’s no denying that these hand-made guitar hangers look the business! Many customers say how cool these hangers look and the fact that they are really detailed.
- Great choice of colors/designs – There are plenty of options when it comes to the various designs of Guitar Grips. From the different color options to the varying styles on offer.
- Weight-bearing strength – GuitarGrip has designed its hangers to carry many times the weight of your instrument. They’ve tested the Guitar Grips with weights in excess of 60lb. With the average weight of an electric guitar being around 8lb, you’ll have no problem hanging them on one of these.
- Fits most guitars and basses – Most 7-string guitars and 5-string basses fit in a Guitar Grip. Basically, as long as the neck’s no wider than 52mm it should fit.
- Safe for most guitar finishes – These hangers have been tested with many instruments’ finishes, including Nitrocellulose, without any detriment.
Cons
- Price – As each and every Guitar Grip hanger is hand-made and hand-painted individually, a lot more work goes into them, compared to standard hangers. As such, this extra work is reflected in the price.
- Could require the purchase of a mounting kit – Depending on the wall you want to mount the hangers, you may need to buy an additional mounting kit. These are relatively inexpensive though.
- Not all hands are available outside the USA – On the UK website, some of the right-hand versions (needed for some left handed headstocks) are not available.
