Does B.C. Rich Make Left Handed Guitars?

Yes, they do! At the moment, though, only two left handed B.C. Rich guitars are shown on their website; the Warlock Prophecy with Quad Bridge and the Stealth Legacy Exotic. However, there are other models out there…

I emailed B.C. Rich to find out if there are any other left handed models available, and this was their reply:

“Thanks so much for reaching out. I cannot say exactly what models will be offered left-handed. However, I do know it is more than just the MockingBird. I have personally held stealth, warlock and shredzilla models in left-handed. Again, I can’t confirm what will be offered, but I would assume it will be a good variety.”

So, a somewhat vague response, but it’s safe to say that there are other models available, however, it’s not clear which models are actually being made at the moment.

I then tried contacting the UK distributor for B.C. Rich, and this is what they had to say:

“I’m sorry but we no longer handle B.C. Rich guitars. As far as we know the only retailer selling BC Rich in the UK is Andertons in Guildford.”

Unfortunately, as I write this post, Andertons don’t have any left handed B.C. Rich guitars or basses available. Do check back there though.

So, with that, I thought I’d have a look around online to see what other left handed B.C. Rich guitars I could find. Check out the guitars further down, or read on for more info.

There don’t seem to be many places online to get left handed B.C. Rich guitars, however, Xtreme Lefty Guitars seem to have a decent selection.

According to the B.C. Rich website, there are two lefty models available. However, after emailing them, I found that there are other models out there, but even they couldn’t tell me definitively which models they make. It’s a shame that there’s hardly any information about what you can get.

Famous artists who have played B.C. Rich instruments include Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Dave Ellefson (Ex-Megadeth), and Kerry King (Slayer).

Who Are B.C.Rich Guitars?

B.C. Rich Guitars was founded in Los Angeles, California, back in 1969 by Bernardo Chavez Rico. The company is best known for producing guitars and basses favored by metal guitarists. On their website, they proudly state “Designed by shredders – for the shredders“!

Rico was born in Los Angeles in 1941, and in the 1950s began building banjos and ukuleles with his father while working in his father’s shop.

In the late 1960s, Rico founded B.C. Rich Guitars, making acoustic guitars under the names Bernardo Rico or B.C. Rico.

By the 1970s, B.C. Rich Guitars began to make electric guitars, and throughout the 1980s became a hit with heavy metal guitarists.

Their guitars had a unique look that fits perfectly with the whole heavy metal aesthetic. Plus, they gained a rep for being high-quality and were built to last.

The company quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality guitars with innovative designs. Some earlier designs included the Seagull, the Mockingbird, the Eagle, and the Bich, which originally had twin necks.

During the 1980s, B.C. Rich Guitars continued to produce high-quality guitars, but the company began to face financial difficulties. Rico gradually sold the company to New Jersey-based Class Axe in 1989, but the quality of their instruments suffered greatly under their ownership.

Rico bought the company back in 1993 to try to restore his company name, which he did until his untimely death from a sudden heart attack in 1999.

B.C. Rich has since revived its custom shop and continued to produce high-quality guitars, as well as lower-cost imported models.

Today, under current owners Hanser Music Group, B.C. Rich continues to produce guitars favored by heavy metal players, with designs known for their distinctive look and high-quality construction.

More recently, B.C. Rich had one of their Warlock guitars feature prominently in the hugely popular Netflix show Stranger Things 4, with the character Eddie Munson playing Metallica‘s Master of Puppets, giving the song a massive boost in popularity.

B.C. Rich released replicas of this guitar in two different colors, and two different versions; an inspired version and a hand crafted custom shop version.

Sadly these limited edition replicas aren’t available as left handed instruments.

What Do I Think of B.C.Rich Guitars?

I remember looking through guitar mags back in the early 1990s when I’d first started out playing guitar. I’d often see advertisements for B.C. Rich guitars, and they’d always leave an impression with their unique and memorable designs.

I knew nothing about them; how good they were, or what they sounded like. They looked so cool though! They were like no other guitars out there, and I was particularly struck by the Bich and Warlock models.

The shapes of their bodies looked amazing to me! Kinda reminded me of the Batman sign or something. Whatever, they looked really Metal! And that was the kind of music I had listened to a lot at that point.

Ever since then the B.C. Rich brand has stayed in my mind, and I’ve wanted one of their guitars for a long time, but never did get one.

Today, there are some amazing-looking finishes and tops with some cool specs; I’d love a lefty Shredzilla Prophecy Exotic Archtop with the Reptile Eye finish!

Left Handed B.C.Rich Electric Guitars

At the time of writing, I can only find two lefty models on the official B.C. Rich website; the Mockingbird Legacy ST with Floyd Rose. I’ve been told that others are available, but there doesn’t seem to be a definitive list out there, so I’ll include any models from the current range that I do find online.
